Orlandini Studios, established in Milwaukee in 1936, has produced high-quality ornamental plaster for new construction and renovation projects for over 80 years. The techniques and tools used are the same as those applied by plasterers for ages, with essential enhancements integrated.
As you learn about Orlandini Studios below, you’ll quickly realize why Streetcar Flats trusts Eugene with the Underwriter’s Exchange Building‘s crown molding.
Matthew Orlandini’s Travels
Matthew Orlandini left Italy as a young boy and picked up plastering in New Jersey. He became a master and charted a course for Minneapolis, but his future wife stopped him in his tracks in Milwaukee. He started Decorative Supply Inc, which was a public plaster retailer.
Decorative Supply Inc, Becomes Orlandini Studios Ltd.
Decorative Supply Inc relocated to Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood in 1964. Matthew’s son, Julian, played a central part in the move, supervising the transformation of a house into a shop, office, and living space. Julian ultimately bought the company from his father and rebranded it to Orlandini Studios Ltd.
Surviving the 1960s Through the 1980s
Plaster declined in the 1960s through the 1980s, but Julian kept the company on its feet during those difficult years.
Julian was one of few professionals qualified to repair and replicate original plasterwork concealed or damaged for years when plaster’s popularity remerged amid architects and contractors.
Passing the Skill to Future Generations
Julian had finished many projects nationwide by 2000. He trained several apprentices, including his nephew, Eugene, who owns Orlandini Studios.
